Rose Blanche Welcomes the Scenic Eclipse

On a beautiful sunny day, the Scenic Eclipse cruise-ship arrived in Rose Blanche for the last of its three visits. There were 75 people from a number of US states, England, Australian and other places around the world.

The ship anchored outside the harbour, and the passengers were shuttled in by zodiac. Upon arrival, their facial expressions indicated they didn't know what to expect. Newfoundland and Rose Blanche was a new world for them.

What goes around, comes around as they say. In this context, it was just a couple of centuries ago that many of their forefathers came to Newfoundland's shores, the fish-basket of the world. Without doubt at that time, they too didn't know what to expect, but stepped ashore with the same curiosity.

Mayor Durnford welcomed our visitors on the wharf, guides led them to the historic Lighthouse, they bought local crafts at the Craft Store, and then were treated to live music and local cuisine in the Church basement.

They wandered the streets photographing boats, fishing stages, houses and more from various scenic locations.

Those with more adventurous spirits sea-kayaked the harbour, Big Bottom's waterfront and to Cains Island, while others ventured out to Parsons Point and our Katie-Lew Art Studio and Gallery.

Throughout their visit, many had a host of questions about everything Rose Blanche and shared the differences from home. After their fill of warm Newfoundland hospitality, our visitors departed with smiles, handshakes, words of gratitude, and a zodiac ride back to the majestic Scenic Eclipse.

The people of Rose Blanche welcomed these visitors with Newfoundland hospitality, then bid them a fond farewell as they left for their next port of call.

Thank you to the Scenic Eclipse visitors for spending the day with us, and another thank you to all the volunteers that helped showcase our wonderful town during the three Eclipse visits.
