Becoming Seasonal Residents of Newfoundland

Over the summer, our lawyer, I believe the only lawyer in Port Aux Basques, took our documentation and prepared the conveyances necessary for the properties in Rose Blanche to be transferred to us. The documents were then duly signed by all and sent to be registered at the Land Registry office in St. John's. The bottom line is, we're now the proud owners of Katie-Lew, our little blue cottage by the sea.

We have a few minor renovations in mind. We plan to do away with the laundry room and open up the main living area a little more. Then we hope to enlarge a window for a better view of Crow Cove. In addition, we want to close Katie-Lew up for the winter, so a few plumbing changes are required.

Also over the summer, we've been planning our first trip to equip her with a few simple furnishings. The plan is to take most of the stuff with us in Penny. We're going to be using Penny, our little camper trailer as the hauler. This will also result in us having her there to sleep in until Katie-Lew is ready for occupancy.

There is one purchase of interest, it's a kitchen table that we picked up from the local internet used furniture, buy & sell site. The table originally came from Holland and is about 100 years old. It's not in perfect shape but it has character that speaks to its long history, much the way that Katie-Lew does to hers.

We're excited that our first trip to Katie-Lew is at hand, so please wish us well as we become seasonal residents of Newfoundland.
